Fritzner Isemorin was born in the commune of Jacmel in Southern Haiti in 1971. He first became interested in art when he discovered the works of Préfète Duffaut (1923-2012), inspired by the use of perspective and color. Isemorin taught himself to paint and began making his own work by the time he was nineteen, emulating major figures like Murat Saint-Vil and Mario Montilus at first. His take on Haitian “marvelous realism” with surrealist elements soon earned him followers in France and the United States, with a steady stream of commission since the early 2000s. He moved to Port-au-Prince around the same time, and has spent nearly his entire life there, aside from a handful of visits to his wife’s family in the South and to give workshops on painting in the Dominican Republic. He is currently represented by the Galerie d’Art Nader near the Place St. Pierre in Petion-Ville, a southern suburb of Port-au-Prince, and his works are found in private collections around the world.

Condition

Damage to the sides of the canvas. No stretcher.
