Maison Odiot, a French silversmithing firm, originated in 1690 with Jean-Baptiste Gaspard Odiot (1763-1850). The firm gained significant prestige under his grandson, Jean-Baptiste Claude Odiot, who received numerous commissions from Napoleon Bonaparte and his family, including the King of Rome's cradle. Influenced by classical Greek and Egyptian motifs, Claude's work was highly acclaimed, earning a gold medal in the 1802 Exposition de l’Industrie in Paris. His son, Charles Nicolas Odiot, continued the family legacy, favoring the rocaille style and serving as purveyor to King Louis-Philippe. The firm's most significant commission was a 3,000 piece solid gold flatware set for the Viceroy of Egypt, filled by Gustave Odiot, the last family member to lead the company and the purveyor by appointment to the Tsar of Russia. The company was joined with Boulenger in 1906 but became independent again in 1956, and continues to produce new pieces to this day, renowned for over three hundred years for its high quality and detailed work which still garners international patronage.
