Fred Kohl (Born 1937) American, Abstract Acrylic on Canvas. Stunning busy burst of dots and smears in red, blue, green, and orange tones. The single letter "F" is visible in the very bottom right as his signature. Rusty metal plaque at bottom of back of frame reads "KOHL 2015."

Frederick George Kohl Jr. was born in 1937 in Brooklyn, New York to German immigrants, and grew up immersed in art from a young age. In his twenties he traveled to California for work, eventually settling in Escondido with his wife Gerlinde after becoming involved in the growing surrealist art scene. His abstract works, similar to Jackson Pollock, inspired the local movement and younger artists like Casey Weldon and Jon Jaylo, and in the early 2000s Kohl moved to Englewood, Florida where he continues to be involved in the local arts scene, showing his works at the Sarasota Art Center and various Suncoast galleries.
