Frank Harmon Myers was born in Cleves, Ohio in 1899 and studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati before traveling to France to paint alongside John Ellsworth Weis in 1921. He returned to Cincinnati in 1925 to teach at the Art Academy and married a fellow teacher, Ella Price, traveling extensively before winding up in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1932 to paint with Joseph Henry Sharp. After moving to Pacific Grove, California his Impressionist seascapes brought him international acclaim, and he served as president of the Carmel Art Association in 1953, widely exhibiting his works around the world and having his pieces added to the permanent collections of the National Museum of American Art, the San Diego Art Museum, and the Smithsonian Institute, among others. He died of a heart attack in San Francisco on March 7th, 1956, and his brightly colored expressive brush strokes and impact of French impressionism continued to have a lasting influence on artists in the area for decades afterwards.
