Francisco Amighetti (1907–1998) was a Costa Rican artist, writer, and educator best known for his expressive woodcut prints and paintings that captured the everyday lives, traditions, and landscapes of Costa Rica. A leading figure in twentieth-century Latin American art, Amighetti combined technical mastery with a deep interest in social themes, portraying both the beauty of rural life and the realities of inequality and human struggle. He studied at the National School of Fine Arts in San José and later traveled to Europe and South America, experiences that broadened his artistic perspective while reinforcing his commitment to depicting Costa Rican culture. Throughout his career, Amighetti also worked as a professor and author, influencing generations of artists. His work remains celebrated for its emotional depth, strong graphic style, and lasting contribution to Costa Rica's artistic and cultural heritage.
