Château Mouton Rothschild is one of the most famous wine estates in the Bordeaux, located in the commune of Pauillac within the Médoc. Owned by the Rothschild family, the estate produces a highly regarded Cabernet Sauvignon–based red wine known for its power, complexity, and aging potential. Originally ranked as a Second Growth in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855, the château achieved a unique promotion to First Growth status in 1973 after long advocacy by Baron Philippe de Rothschild. The wine is also notable for its tradition, begun in 1945, of commissioning a different famous artist each year—such as Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí—to design the label, making each vintage both a collectible wine and a piece of art.
