Emile Bellet, born in Provence, France in 1941, was a self-taught painter whose vibrant works reflected the colors and scenery of the Mediterranean. Beginning to paint at age five and winning a national art journal competition at twelve, he held his first solo exhibition in 1960 and gained broader recognition after being noticed by Galerie Guigne in 1976. Bellet completed stained glass for Notre Dame de Bon Voyage in 1978 and painted commissions for the Alpine Maritime Region, often working “en plein air” in the Fauvist tradition and frequently depicting his wife and daughter as models for the enigmatic female figures in his work. Achieving international recognition through Park West Gallery in the early 2000s, he exhibited in Japan, Senegal, Brazil, and the United States, with permanent collections throughout France. Bellet passed away on July 1st, 2022, leaving a legacy increasingly represented in private, public, and corporate collections.
