This is an oil on canvas by Edgar Franklin Wittmack, an illustrator and cover artist for many popular magazines in the 1920s and 1930s. His covers, just like the artwork of Norman Rockwell, were usually created as oil paintings, but Rockwell could see the humorous aspects of small town life, while Wittmack dealt appealed mainly to male-oriented interests. He often painted heroic or action-type figures for the Saturday Evening Post, American Boy, Outdoor Life[, as well as for pulp magazines such as Adventure and Short Stories.
