Don Prys was born in 1948 in San Diego, California, where he first began to explore painting himself after becoming the manager of the Los Olivos Art Gallery in the late 1960s. This led him to eventually open his own facility, Prys Gallery, with his wife in the Santa Ynez Valley in 1983, where he taught himself how to capture the rolling hills and sweeping views of the Golden State in oils on panel as well as watercolors. As his family grew he moved them to Grand Rapids, Michigan in the 90s, where he reopened Prys Gallery in the nearby village of Ada to support his own work as well as that of local painters and sculptors. In the 2010s he and his wife retired to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he continues to paint new works, dividing his time between there and Colorado to gain new inspiration.
