Dennis Campay (born 1950 in Portsmouth, Virginia) is an American mixed‑media painter celebrated for richly textured, dreamlike compositions that blend architecture, memory, and poetic symbolism. After working in architecture, he turned to art in his late 30s and earned a BFA from the Atlanta College of Art in 1992. Campay’s work—often described as “figurative abstraction” — melds evocative cityscapes, coastal imagery, pianos, chairs, and classical architectural motifs to evoke mood, nostalgia, and inner reflection. Known for his experimental, process‑driven style that frequently mixes drawing, paint, plaster, and found materials, Campay crafts layered, immersive scenes that invite personal interpretation. His paintings are held in museum and private collections across the United States, and he has also contributed illustrations for children’s books and supported emerging artists through scholarships he and his wife established.
