Artist Biography: Dale Chihuly, born on September 20, 1941, in Tacoma, Washington, is a renowned American glass artist known for revolutionizing the studio glass movement and elevating the medium of blown glass to fine art. He studied interior design at the University of Washington, further honing his skills in glassblowing at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and the Venini glass factory in Murano, Italy. Chihuly co-founded the Pilchuck Glass School in 1971, fostering a collaborative environment for glass artists. Despite losing vision in one eye in a 1976 car accident, Chihuly's vibrant, large-scale installations and sculptures continue to captivate audiences worldwide, reflecting his innovative techniques and bold use of color and form. His works are exhibited in over 200 museum collections globally, making him a pivotal figure in contemporary art.
