Curt Lessig (1924-2019) was a German painter, graphic artist, and designer best known for his extensive work in stained glass, murals, mosaics, and landscape gouaches. Born in Stuttgart, he trained as a church painter before serving in World War II, later studying at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts under Walther Teutsch. In 1957 he founded his own studio and went on to complete more than 400 public art commissions across Germany, from Bundeswehr installations to schools and churches. Working in media such as linocut, lithography, fresco, and glass, Lessig developed a style that blended figuration with abstraction, often exploring spiritual and architectural themes. His wide-ranging travels—to Egypt, Mexico, India, and Japan—infused his work with a cosmopolitan sensibility that bridged sacred tradition and modern design.
