The Concord Watch Company, a Swiss luxury goods firm founded in 1908, was acquired by the North American Watch Company in 1970. From the late 1970s through the 1980s Concord dominated the luxury quartz watch market with flagship models like the ultra-thin Delirium and the Centurion with prices often exceeding those of base Rolex and Omega automatic watches. The brand achieved significant visibility through aggressive advertising and product placement strategies in the United States, and was known for several innovations, including being one of the first private label luxury watches to use precious metals and gems and creating the thinnest watch ever made in 1979. However, the brand’s popularity faded in the 1990s as styles changed and the parent company shifted focus to its mid-range Movado brand. The company rebranded as Movado in 1996, which diminished Concord’s exclusive luxury branding, but has since released pieces such as their C1 line to regain their market position.
