Bootham Bar is a historic medieval gateway in York, England, serving as one of the four main entrances to the city's walls. Dating back to Roman times, it was later rebuilt in the 11th century and significantly modified in the 14th and 19th centuries. The structure features a mix of architectural styles, including Gothic elements, and once housed a portcullis and defensive battlements. It played a key role in York’s defenses and was used to control access to the city. Today, Bootham Bar remains an important landmark and a popular tourist attraction.
