Clyde Ball was born on November 3rd, 1929 in Gary, Indiana, and was raised by his maternal grandparents after his parents died during the Depression. He attended Iowa State College where he met his future wife, Belva Lou Ross, and married her in 1951 before serving as an officer in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. They settled in northwest Indiana while he began studies at the Art Institute of Chicago on the GI Bill, drawn to abstract sculpture. In 1964, after a near-fatal car accident, he and his wife both decided to become full-time artists, winning a trip to Paris two years later from the Bonnewell Art Festival that profoundly affected their styles. Upon their return they settled in Saugatuck, Michigan and set up a home studio, producing artwork they showcased throughout the United States at annual art shows, winning multiple awards while he also worked as a model for catalogs, magazines, and newspapers in the Midwest. He passed away on October 1st, 2017, with his pieces still sought by collectors around the globe.
