Circular colored portrait of Lord Nelson under glass. Nelson is facing to his right and wearing a large red sash, which represented the Order of the Bath, and his right arm was amputated after a naval engagement during the Battle of Santa Cruz de Tenerife off the Canary Islands in 1797. He was shot in the right elbow by a musket ball and his humerus bone shattered in multiple places, so he underwent surgery and lost his right arm, yet returned to battle about a half hour after the surgery was done - a lot of pluck and fortitude by this courageous national hero. The oval frame measures 5 1/2 in. in diameter and the portrait measures 3 3/8 in. in diameter, and the portrait is under glass. Overall size: 6 x 5 1/2 in. Image size: 3 3/4 x 3 3/4 in.
