Considered by some to be the voice of Abstract Expressionism, Elaine Fried de Kooning was a brilliant defender of the movement and wrote numerous insightful pieces about her fellow artists after marrying Willem de Kooning. Her circle expanded exponentially throughout her life, and many of her contemporaries, particularly in the 1940s and 50s New York scene, adopted her distinctive style of capturing figural images.
