“Ewer” is an older word for a pitcher or jug of any type, though it tended to be used specifically to refer to vase-shaped pitchers, often decorated, with a base and a flaring spout. The word is now uncommon in informal English descriptions of ordinary household vessels. However, it is still applied by some European manufacturers to differentiate when a pitcher has a much broader mouth as opposed to a smaller cleft.
