Chinese Gongbi Women in Garden Watercolor on Silk. Depicts two robed women and a young girl feeding fish in a pond in the middle of a quaint garden. Kanji and seal horizontally from the top left. Red gourd shaped seal bottom right. Done in a 19th Century style and housed in a frame with green corner pieces. 

Overall Size: 17 x 21 in. 

Sight Size: 12 x 14 in. 

Gongbi is a traditional Chinese painting style translating to "meticulous brush craftsmanship," defined by precise outlines and rich, layered colors on silk or paper. Originating over 2,000 years ago in the Han Dynasty, it reached its peak during the Tang and Song Dynasties as a prized imperial artform. Unlike the loose xieyi style, this realist technique relies on intense detail and remains a popular medium today for both classic and modern subjects.
