Chinese Gongbi Flowers and Butterflies Watercolor on Paper - AS IS. A spray of white and red flowers with three extremely colorful butterflies floating in the upper left. Kanji and red seal bottom left. In faux bamboo frame. 

Condition: Small loss to paper throughout.

Gongbi is a traditional Chinese painting style translating to "meticulous brush craftsmanship," defined by precise outlines and rich, layered colors on silk or paper. Originating over 2,000 years ago in the Han Dynasty, it reached its peak during the Tang and Song Dynasties as a prized imperial artform. Unlike the loose xieyi style, this realist technique relies on intense detail and remains a popular medium today for both classic and modern subjects.
