Chinese ancestral portraits are formal, often life-sized depictions of deceased family members, traditionally painted in ink and color on silk or paper to honor and preserve their memory within Confucian traditions. Portraying the subject in ceremonial attire, these artworks emphasize dignity and moral virtue, often including inscriptions detailing the ancestor's lineage and achievements.  Displayed in ancestral halls or family shrines, the portraits function as crucial focal points for veneration and ritual offerings, thus reinforcing the family hierarchy and the core value of filial piety.
