Charlie Burke is an American painter based in Albuquerque who is known for large-scale abstracted landscape paintings inspired by grasses, reeds, light, and the textures of the natural world. After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of New Mexico in 1973, he began his career as a realist watercolor painter before gradually moving toward increasingly abstract oil paintings characterized by vibrant color, rhythmic brushwork, and immersive close-up views of nature. Rather than depicting sweeping vistas, Burk often focuses on intimate ground-level perspectives that transform ordinary fields and vegetation into luminous, almost musical compositions. His work has been widely exhibited through Winterowd Fine Art in Santa Fe and has been featured in publications such as Southwest Art, where his paintings are described as explorations of color, texture, movement, and abstraction rooted in the landscape of the American Southwest
