Charley Harper (born Charles Burton Harper, August 4, 1922 – June 10, 2007) was an American Modernist wildlife artist and illustrator renowned for his vibrant, highly stylized depictions of animals and nature executed in a style he termed “minimal realism,” which captures the essence of wildlife with simple geometric shapes, bold color and clean lines. Raised on a farm in Frenchton, West Virginia, his early connection with nature deeply influenced his art; after studying at the Art Academy of Cincinnati he built a career creating iconic prints, posters, book illustrations and commissioned works for organizations like the National Park Service and the Cincinnati Zoo, combining artistic wit with a lifelong advocacy for conservation.
