Charles Fracé was born on February 28th, 1926 in Mauch Chunk, Pennsylvania, and taught himself to paint by the age of fifteen. After graduating from the Philadelphia Museum School of Art in 1952 he spent two decades as a successful freelance illustrator before transitioning to fine art in 1973 when he had his family moved to Nashville, Tennessee. He became a renowned wildlife artist who achieved immense popularity through his highly accurate oil paintings of animals, particularly big cats, and his career was defined by an insistence on painting only animals he had personally observed, a dedication that earned him a solo exhibition at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in 1992. Following his death on December 16th, 2005, his legacy continues through the Fracé Fund for Wildlife Preservation and his enduring influence on the genre of wildlife realism.
Charleyn Moore was born Charleyn Fredericka Thatcher on January 26th, 1934 in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she lived nearly her whole life. She began teaching herself how to paint in her teens and devoted herself solely to the craft after getting married, eventually becoming a highly sought after artist who produced naturalistic depictions of wildlife that can be found in public, private, and corporate collections all over the world. She passed away at home on March 8th, 2010, leaving a legacy of hundreds of paintings and prints capturing many decades worth of animals, often from life rather than in a studio.
