This is an original carousel horse attributed to the Herschell-Spillman Company in North Tonawanda, New York, just outside of Buffalo. The company was an outgrowth of the Allan Herschell Company, which started in 1915 and specialized in the creation of amusement rides, especially carousels and roller coasters. Surviving carousels can be found in California, Michigan, and Maryland. The horse has a carved flowing mane and a natural horsehair tail, and most of the original paint has worn away. Dimensions: 53 in. high x 51 in. long x 10 1/2 in. wide.
