Bijan Bahar (Born 1936) Iranian/American, Birds of Prey Gilt Bronze Sculpture. Depicts a bird with wings outstretched descending to capture a fish attached to it by a curved rod that anchors the piece to a cylindrical marble base. A metal plaque with his signature and dated '80 is affixed to the side of the base.

Bijan Bahar was born in Iran in 1936, and motivated by articles that he read in Life magazine fled his home country at the age of 15 to find his way to America. He traveled throughout Europe before finally departing for New York City, then spending the rest of the year traveling across the country to live with his brother in California. After graduating from Newport Harbor High School he attended California College of Arts and Crafts, graduating with a B.A. in Industrial Design and a minor in Photography. He spent several more years in Europe, exploring art and architecture in numerous forms before returning to the United States and opening his own sculpture studio. Since then he has become world-renowned for his abstract and figurative sculptures in bronze, iron, stone, and especially crystal, working for a time as an artist-in-residence with Baccarat and having his pieces included in the Smithsonian, among many other galleries and museums around the world.
