Bakufu Ohno (1888-1976) was a distinguished Japanese painter and printmaker, born in Tokyo and later relocating to Kansai after the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake. He is renowned for his colorful woodblock prints of nature, especially his series, “Dai Nihon Gyorui Gashu” (Familiar Fishes of Nippon). Ohno’s unique style merged traditional Japanese techniques with a more surreal, modern approach, creating detailed and vibrant representations of animals and landscapes. His works did not neatly fit into the contemporary shin hanga or sosaku hanga movements, giving them a distinctively timeless and cross-cultural appeal.
Some fading. Commensurate with age.
