Arthur Fillon (1900-1974) was a French painter who studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Marseille before moving to Paris in 1918. He gained early recognition for his bucolic images of circuses, sports scenes, and Parisian life, regularly exhibiting at the Salon d’Automne and Salon des Indépendants starting in 1924. Fillon shifted toward Impressionism in the 1930s and 50s, though his palette briefly darkened during the Nazi occupation. His later years were devoted to a lighter style, focusing on landscapes and finally, still lifes, which are still appreciated today for their vibrant appreciation of the City of Lights.
