Vintage silver-toned metal wax jack features a coiled orange taper candle wound around a horizontal central spindle, set within an arched frame atop a footed tray with a matching cone-shaped snuffer attached to the side. Marked on underside.

Wax candle jacks are traditional mechanical devices designed to hold and elevate candles, commonly used in Europe from the medieval period through the 18th century. Typically made of wrought iron or brass, they employ a ratcheted shaft or spring mechanism that allows the candle holder to be raised or lowered to maintain optimal light as the candle burns down. Both functional and decorative, candle jacks were essential domestic tools before modern lighting, reflecting the ingenuity and craftsmanship of pre-industrial household technology.
