Ornate, gilded metal base features Gothic-style openwork with fleur-de-lis and scrolling acanthus leaf motifs, supported by four legs sculpted into the form of mythical winged beasts.

Size: 6 1/2 x 10 x 10 in.

 

A monstrance base is the supportive lower section of a monstrance, the ornate vessel used in Christian liturgy to display the consecrated Eucharistic host. Typically crafted from precious metals such as gold or silver, the base is often elaborately decorated with religious motifs, filigree, or gemstone inlays to convey reverence and grandeur. Designed to provide stability for the often tall and intricate upper structure, the base may take the form of a circular foot, a tripod, or a stepped pedestal, balancing both functional strength and visual harmony in ceremonial contexts.
