Omega SA, a Swiss luxury watchmaker, was founded by Louis Brandt in 1848 as La Generale Watch Co. His sons later developed the innovative in-house Omega manufacturing system in 1894, which gave rise to the official Omega Watch Co. in 1903. The company merged with Tissot in 1925 and later became part of the SSIH group, growing a reputation through use by the military and NASA, and as the official Olympic timekeeper since 1932. Under Joseph Reiser’s leadership starting in 1955 Omega expanded significantly, becoming Switzerland’s top finished watch producer by the 1970s. However, the Quartz Crisis and recession led to financial difficulties, resulting in a bailout and a merger with rival ASUAG in 1983. The resulting conglomerate was taken over by private investors in 1985, creating The Swatch Group. Omega achieved a resurgence through strategic product placement, notably in James Bond films, and capitalized on its history as the first watch on the Moon, worn by Buzz Aldrin. Today, Omega remains a highly sought-after brand, renowned for its technical achievements and iconic designs.
