Ancient Khmer Standing Ganesha Bronze Statue. The elephant-headed deity stands tall, still fiercely defending a temple it once guarded long ago.
Size: 5 1/2 x 3 1/2 x 8 1/2 in.
This traditional 11th through 13th Century-style statue depicts the Hindu deity Ganesha, known as the remover of obstacles, the god of beginnings, intellect, and wisdom. It is a four-armed figure, holding symbolic items and wearing a crown, with a deep black-green patina and specific signs of incrustation indicating its age and material makeup. The Khmer Empire, which lasted from 802-1431 AD, left behind many ruins and artifacts in the area now known as Cambodia, with a rich history stretching back over 2000 years earlier than their zenith.
