Amy Tyson has been driven since childhood to interpret the world through pattern and color, evolving from early landscape paintings into a multidisciplinary practice shaped by travel, nature, and design. Born in Indiana and raised near Washington, DC, she spent formative hours at the National Gallery of Art before earning a BFA in painting from Indiana University. Her artistic path carried her from San Diego—where diving and dramatic landscapes inspired large abstract canvases—to Seattle, where work in aerospace and a fascination with constellations fueled her exploration of intricate dot-and-line compositions. Seeking to deepen her material knowledge, she moved to New York City to study textiles at the Fashion Institute of Technology, later working as a design manager for high-end rug companies, creating organic and abstract patterns while traveling internationally to research craft and production. Her freelance work has included apparel prints and interior color consulting. In 2014, Tyson founded Auda Sinda in Bellingham, Washington, where she designs and handweaves custom rugs for the interior design trade, uniting fine art sensibility with textile craftsmanship.
