Alano Edzerza was born into the Ganhada tribe in 1981 in Victoria, British Columbia. He was involved with art from a young age, attending the International Students Victoria School where he won his first sculpture award at the age of thirteen. He began exhibiting his work while working in the Northwest Coast style of art under the supervision of an experienced family member, Terrance Campbell, using his heritage as an inspiration and symbols used by his ancestors. He wanted to expand his knowledge of jewelry making and traveled to Arizona in 2002 in order to learn from Rick Charlie. He also began creating glass designs, which led him to develop and promote his own gallery, Edzerza Artworks, as well as fashion clothing under Edzerza Sports. In 2010, during the Olympic Games, Edzerza created the sportswear outfits for the Dutch Olympic team. He has worked with organizations such as the Knowledgeable Aboriginal Youth Association (KAYA), and currently lives in downtown Vancouver where he manages his companies selling retail artwork.
