Akira Kurosaki (1937-2019) was a Japanese printmaker who studied at the Kyoto Institute of Technology, later becoming an Associate Professor at the institution. Influenced by the modern Sōsaku-hanga movement, he emerged as a leading figure in the revival of the traditional wood print (moku-hanga) technique. Kurosaki blended semi-abstract and surrealist elements with symbolic landscapes, offering abstract critiques of the post-War era. His acclaimed work earned him recognition and regular participation in print biennales globally, and his pieces are held in major public collections, including the British Museum and MoMA in New York.
