Johann Rottenhammer (1564–1625) was a German painter known for his finely detailed, small-scale paintings on copper, often depicting religious and mythological scenes. Trained in Munich, he later worked in Italy, where he was influenced by Venetian painters like Tintoretto and Veronese, adopting their rich color palettes and dynamic compositions. Rottenhammer became renowned for combining Italian artistic techniques with Northern European precision, making him a sought-after artist among collectors. He also collaborated with German landscape painters, such as Paul Bril, providing figures for their compositions. His work played a key role in bridging Italian and Northern Renaissance traditions, contributing to the development of Baroque painting in Germany.
