Size: 7 x 4 1/2 x 12 1/2 in.
Emile Pinedo was born in Paris, France in 1840. He studied sculpture under his father and took over the family business in 1865, with a highly successful debut of his original pieces at the Paris Salon in 1870. He exhibited internationally and was awarded a silver medal at the Exposition Universelle of 1889, with his work featured at the Chicago Exhibition of 1893. His high-quality bronze works, known for their historical, Orientalist, and figurative themes, continue to be highly sought by collectors to this day. He was also adamant that works should be made of only the finest materials, and routinely included a seal on his works in addition to the foundry marks, “Bronze Garanti Au Titre Paris,” to distinguish his works from his contemporaries. He died in 1916.
