The San people of Botswana, also known as the Basarwa, are one of the oldest Indigenous groups in Southern Africa, with a history dating back tens of thousands of years. Traditionally hunter-gatherers, they have deep knowledge of the Kalahari Desert, relying on tracking, foraging, and survival skills passed down through generations. Despite modernization and government efforts to settle them in villages, many San continue to fight for land rights and cultural preservation. Their unique click-language, storytelling traditions, and rock art contribute to Botswana’s rich heritage. Today, they play a vital role in eco-tourism and conservation efforts in the region.
