(7) Sarreguemines French Majolica Decorative Porcelain Plates. Lot comprised of  seven Sarreguemines French majolica plates and small bowls featuring vibrantly hand-painted floral bouquets, baskets, and borders on a white ground. Impressed mark on back.

Condition: Small chips on rim of a few plates. Larger chip on underside near rim on one plate. Design rubbing off several plates.

French majolica is a richly colored, tin-glazed earthenware that flourished in France from the Renaissance onward and experienced a major revival during the nineteenth century. Inspired by Italian maiolica traditions, French potters produced decorative ceramics featuring vibrant enamel glazes, molded relief designs, and motifs drawn from nature, mythology, and everyday life. During the nineteenth century, manufacturers such as Sarreguemines, Choisy-le-Roi, and Onnaing popularized majolica-style wares, creating colorful plates, jardinieres, vases, and tableware that appealed to both domestic and international markets. French majolica is distinguished by its exuberant decoration, sculptural forms, and glossy surfaces, making it a highly collectible category of decorative art and ceramics today.
