(5) Pieces of Art Pottery. Lot comprised of five pieces of art pottery in various styles by various studios, including ring vase signed T.J. Wheatley (1879), Hugh Robertson "Sang de Boeuf", experimental glaze. 

Tallest Size: 11 x 3 1/2 x 11 1/4 in. 

Art pottery refers to decorative ceramics created primarily for aesthetic rather than purely functional purposes, emerging as a significant movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Influenced by the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau movements, art pottery emphasized handcrafted techniques, artistic glazes, and intricate designs, often inspired by nature. Prominent manufacturers, such as Rookwood, Grueby, and Roseville, produced unique vases, tiles, and sculptural pieces that blended artistry with craftsmanship. While industrial production eventually overshadowed handmade pottery, art pottery remains highly collectible, with modern artisans continuing the tradition of creating ceramics as both functional objects and works of art.
