From the late 18th to early 20th century, shipbuilders used half-models—scaled wooden representations of one side of a hull—as essential design tools. Three main types existed: block half-hulls, “hawk’s nest” models, and “lift” half models, the latter becoming the most common by the 1890s. These models provided accurate dimensions for constructing full-size frames and hulls. Today, original builder’s half-models are prized by collectors and preserved in maritime museums for their historical significance.
Minor apologies.
