Largest Size: 14 1/2 x 14 1/2 x 1 1/2 in.

Georges Briard was the professional design pseudonym of Jascha Brojdo (1917-2005), a prominent American designer celebrated for his signature dishware and mid-century modern glassware. Born Jakub Brojdo in Ekaterinoslav, he fled Poland for Chicago in 1937 to escape the impending Nazi threat and later earned a Master of Fine Arts from the Art Institute of Chicago. During World War II Brojdo put his multilingual talents to use by serving as a Russian and Polish interpreter on General George S. Patton’s staff. After his discharge, he teamed up with art school classmate Max Wille in New York, who coined the name “Georges Briard” to distinguish Brojdo’s commercial products from his fine art. His iconic barware and kitchenware collections frequently showcased bright, gem-like colors heavily accented with lavish overlays of 22-karat gold. These luxury goods were stocked at stores like Neiman Marcus and Bonwit Teller, remaining highly collectible today and earning Brojdo a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004.
