Christine McGinnis (1937–2019) was an American postwar and contemporary artist celebrated for her vibrant acrylic paintings and intricate animal engravings. Based in Philadelphia, she studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and developed a distinctive body of work that included drypoint engravings and prints such as Wood Owl, Eagle Owl, Cooper’s Hawk, Short-Eared Owl, and Pachyderm, many of which are held in institutional collections. Active primarily in the mid- to late-20th century, McGinnis was known for bold, surreal acrylic compositions that blended naturalistic detail with fantasy and symbolic imagery. Her work appeared in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including those at the Woodmere Art Museum, and remains recognized for its vivid color, imaginative flair, and whimsical engagement with the animal world.
