Anchor Hocking is an American glassware manufacturer founded in 1905 as the Hocking Glass Company in Lancaster, Ohio. The company pioneered key industry milestones, such as developing the first nonreturnable beer bottle in 1934 and heavily producing popular Depression glass lines like Fire-King. In 1987 the firm was bought by the Newell Company in a hostile takeover that closed the local headquarters and sparked decades of shifting private equity ownership. Most recently, parent company Centre Lane Partners drew sharp political backlash and legal action from Pennsylvania lawmakers after closing a historic 132-year-old Pyrex factory in 2025 to consolidate production in Ohio. 

Blenko Glass Company, originally founded as Eureka Art Glass Company in 1922 by Englishman William J. Blenko (1854-1933), is an art glass manufacturer still operating in Milton, West Virginia. After several failed glass factories in Indiana, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, Blenko’s fourth venture succeeded, producing flat glass using a patented cylinder method blown and molded by hand. His son, William H. Blenko, joined in 1923 and helped the company pivot to colorful glassware during the Great Depression. By the 1940s, Blenko employed designers to create art glass, complementing their ongoing flat glass production. Despite management changes and bankruptcy in the 21st Century, the company continues to produce collectible glassware and art glass, including their renowned crackle ware, led by Blenko family members.
