(3) American and Australian Art Glass Perfume Bottles. The largest has a solid clear core with two stained glass panels on either side turning it into a stunning butterfly, no visible signature. The other two are more irregularly shaped with Murano style features, one signed and dated 1984 by Leon Applebaum and the other signed and dated '87 by Richard Clements. All three have stoppers.
Largest Size: 2 1/4 x 3 3/4 x 5 3/4 in.
Born in London in 1950, Richard Clements completed a five-year apprenticeship in scientific glassblowing before immigrating to Australia, co-founding Sydney's Argyle Glass in 1972. Moving to Tasmania in 1975, he established a riverside studio where he pioneered custom-colored borosilicate glass by blending metallic oxides directly into the molten batch. Clements achieved global acclaim for his handcrafted, jewel-like scent bottles finished with signature seal prunts, with works held in major international collections including the National Gallery of Victoria and the Powerhouse Museum.
Born in 1945, American glass artist Leon Applebaum is celebrated for developing innovative hot-glass techniques that utilize centrifugal force, gravity, and fire to create dynamic abstract sculptures. His work is defined by transparent, jewel-like colors and fluid lines that highlight the optical interaction of light and form. Applebaum further expands his artistic scope by assembling cold-worked glass components into complex, multi-layered compositions, earning wide acclaim in fine art collections for his technical virtuosity.
