20th Century Silk Cigar Band Quilt. Silk quilt made from vintage cigar bands. Mounted on black panel, strung for wall display.

Cigar bands are decorative paper rings wrapped around the body of a cigar, typically located near the head, serving both functional and aesthetic purposes. Introduced in the 19th century, possibly by Gustave Bock, these bands helped prevent staining fingers with tobacco oils and provided a branding opportunity for manufacturers. Over time, they evolved into miniature works of art, featuring intricate designs, emblems, and sometimes even gold foil or embossing to signify prestige or authenticity. Collectors often value vintage cigar bands for their craftsmanship and historical significance, making them a niche form of ephemera.
