(2) Rookwood Pottery St. Francis Ceramic Bookends. Pair St. Francis of Assisi bookends, the designer Clothilda Zanetta, cast in 1945 and covered in a pleasing brown and gray high glaze.

Rookwood Pottery is a historic American ceramics company founded in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1880 by Maria Longworth Nichols Storer. Celebrated for its high-quality art pottery, Rookwood became a leader in the American Arts and Crafts movement, known for its richly colored glazes and finely modeled, often nature-inspired, relief designs. The company employed talented artists and introduced innovative glazing techniques such as the signature "tiger eye" and "vellum" finishes, which contributed to its international acclaim. Rookwood’s work was displayed at major exhibitions and collected by museums, earning a reputation for both artistic excellence and technical mastery. Though it experienced periods of decline, the company was revived in the 21st century and continues to produce handcrafted ceramic art and architectural tiles, upholding its legacy of American craftsmanship.
