The International Silver Company was established in Meriden, Connecticut, in 1898 through the consolidation of numerous existing silver companies from Connecticut, New York, and Canada. This corporation continued to produce a wide range of silver goods, often retaining or listing the original company's brand alongside their own International Silver Company mark. Throughout the 20th century, the company engaged in various promotional activities, including sponsoring the Silver Theater television program and creating custom silverware for Hollywood actresses like Joan Crawford and Judy Garland. By the 1960s, most of the original factories had closed, consolidating operations at the Meriden headquarters until that plant's liquidation in 1982. While the company ceased all its own manufacturing decades ago, the "International Silver Company" name continues to appear on new goods today, and historical designs are collected by major museums worldwide.
