19th Century Dresden Porcelain Polychrome Painted Ginger Jar. Porcelain jar featuring cobalt blue panels with gilt scrollwork and a central hand-painted landscape vignette of a scenic riverside village.

Condition: Slight rubbing. Hairline on lid.

Dresden porcelain is a style of highly decorative porcelain associated with the city of Dresden and the workshops that decorated porcelain produced in nearby Meissen and other German factories. It is celebrated for its delicate craftsmanship, elaborate hand-painted floral motifs, lace-like embellishments, and richly gilded surfaces. During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, Dresden decorators became renowned for transforming fine porcelain into luxurious objects such as figurines, vases, and tablewares. Although “Dresden porcelain” often refers to decorated wares rather than porcelain manufactured in Dresden itself, the term remains synonymous with elegance, refinement, and the decorative artistry that flourished in Saxony’s porcelain industry.
