They feature authors like Shakespeare, Kipling, and Lincoln, sold in bulk at stores like Woolworth’s and by mail, and are now sought after today as decorative, collectible items. These small books often have green or red covers, and contain abridged or full works of famous literature and speeches in a space of four inches tall or less. The concept behind them was to make classic texts accessible and affordable, with sets often including 27 or more unique titles.
